Injury Prevention and Post-Rehabilitation
Most overuse injuries occur because of muscle imbalance. This can occur due to overuse in a specific sport like tennis or from poor posture due to sitting at a computer for too many hours. Proper Pilates can help to prevent these injuries by focusing on returning balance to the bodily structures involved. We do this by strengthening and stretching the muscle, improving posture by lengthening the spine and increasing muscle tone in the spinal erectors and bringing stabilization to all the joints of the body.
In post-rehabilitation Pilates can be very useful because it can be non-weight bearing exercise and also because we take care to see the body as a whole. We focus not only on the site of the injury but also on compensation and habitual patterns as well. At Pilates on 10th our team of experienced instructors have successfully seen to the after care of such injuries as ACL tears, hip replacements, shoulder separations, mastectomies and disc herniations to name a few. We are not physical therapists and do not make diagnosis, but we can see you through post-rehabilitation and do our best to help you regain your pre-injury vigor!
